Sustainable chocolate packaging makes inner wrapping superfluous

Van Genechten Packaging (VGP) are very happy to present “PurePac”, a new chocolate packaging combining great consumer experience with sustainability. PurePac is a 100 % recyclable chocolate packaging that eliminates the need for inner wrapping material. This means no more aluminium, plastic or alu/paper wrapping inside. In practice, the new packaging can reduce a brand’s aluminium usage by 15,000 kg per 10 m units. “Just as important, however, it offers new branding possibilities such as inside printing without high additional costs”, notes Marc Büttgenbach, VGP’s Chief Commercial Officer. “And it does not compromise line efficiency or limit finishing options or food safety.”

Consumers today demand not only great looks and experience but, increasingly, that their favourite brands drive sustainability. VGP are convinced that folding carton means that these desires work in harmony rather than necessitating compromise.

Carefully selecting ingredients, growing cacao beans with respect for farmers and the environment and participating in schemes such as Fairtrade and forest protection: The chocolate industry is making great steps towards improved sustainability. However, VGP believe that these efforts still have a blind spot: packaging. Single-use wrapping materials, used as internal wrapping, can undermine brands claims to sustainability and erode the magic of customer experience.

PurePac folding carton packaging with a unique anti-grease barrier keeps the product safe, gives customers the magical experience they want and is 100 % recyclable.
