Schut Systems: Origami as an alternative to plastic trays

At FachPack trade show in Nürnberg/Germany, Schut Systems will be showing the newly developed Lock-Well rotating carton erecting machine. Although several Lock-Well machines have been supplied to the food industry, the technology of this multi-chamber machine will be demonstrated in public for the first time. An ingenious method which looks like origami, the Japanese paper folding art that does not need any glue. A blank from ultralight corrugated cardboard is removed from the blank magazine, pressed through the tool plate and leaves the machine as an erected tray with compartments. In close cooperation with PilloPak, the supplier of ultralight corrugated paper, different tray variants and shapes have been developed. Compared to the prototype, important developments have been made on the machine. It has become up to 50 % more compact and it changes tray sizes much faster. A tray size change takes only a few minutes, and several packaging variants can be processed.
