Cardboard products with self-disinfecting coating

The desire for germ-free products and packaging that eliminate the need for constant hand washing and disinfection of hands and possibly surfaces after contact has been more topical than ever since the emergence of the Corona pandemic. This vision has now been turned into reality: Van Genechten Packaging, in collaboration with Varcotec, has introduced Lock 3, a unique and innovative coating process, according to the supplier, which has been successfully tested by independent institutes in accordance with ISO 22196 (mod.) for bacteria and ISO 21702 (mod.) for viruses on dry surfaces such as cardboard boxes with light.

For printed products with a load of less than 1,000 germs per 1 cm², a hygienically clean surface is produced in less than 1 min under normal office light. A printed product is usually contaminated with an average of 100 to 200 germs per 1 cm². This means that the new technology kills or deactivates both bacteria and viruses and can permanently close hygiene gaps for germ reduced printed products. The transmission of pathogens is prevented by up to 99.99 % and infection chains are permanently interrupted.
