Walki Group, a leading manufacturer of technical laminates and protective packaging materials headquartered in Espoo/Finland, has signed a definitive purchase agreement to acquire 100 % of the shares of Plastiroll, a Finnish sustainable packaging material producer. “With this transaction, we will significantly broaden our offering of sustainable packaging materials including compostable bags and films as well as recyclable dispersion coated fibre-based packaging”, said Leif Frilund, President and CEO of Walki. The Group has a workforce of around 950 people. In 2018, its annual turnover amounted to EUR 317 m.

Founded in 1983 and employing some 90 people, Plastiroll is one of Europe’s leading producers of biodegradable bags and films, with more than 25 years of experience in developing and producing compostable films. These products are marketed under the brands Bioska and Hauska. The company has two manufacturing facilities in Ylöjärvi, near Tampere/Finland, and generates a turnover of EUR 31 m.
