Dear readers,

By Dr. Jörg Häseler, Chefredakteur Sweets Processing

The new government is off to a good start, even if it was a bumpy one. Now the coalition partners must show that the promises are being kept and that the economy is regaining momentum. Great hopes have to be fulfilled and Germany needs the famous jolt to get things moving again. The bureaucracy with its numerous recording obligations should be streamlined and energy costs reduced.

This is also confirmed by the German food industry, which is facing increasing administrative hurdles in its international business. According to the Export Indicator June 2025, which the Federation of the German Food Industry presented together with AFC Management Consulting GmbH, bureaucracy and complex regulations are noticeably hindering market access. Solutions need to be found quickly.

It is also imperative that Europe speaks with one voice, but the result of the presidential elections in Poland does not bode well. And then there is still the chaotic behaviour of the US president, who only ever has one thing on his mind: making headlines. When he is called back by the courts, it is usually only worth a side note.

I can only agree with our CEO, Joachim Eckert: "For the confectionery industry, tariffs and counter tariffs, isolationism and protectionist measures are real risks that directly affect production, exports and jobs. Open markets and reliable trade relations are vital not only for the survival of the confectionery industry."
