Hans Brunner celebrates its 80th anniversary

Numerous chocolatiers, confectioners and chocolate manufacturers rely on moulds from Hans Brunner GmbH in Glonn, Germany. The company is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, so it’s time for a look back. Company founder Hans Brunner didn’t start with chocolate moulds right away. When he started his business in Munich in 1935 he was initially building mechanical parts such as bicycle tire pumps. It was only in 1949 after relocating the company to its present location in the city of Glonn that Brunner began focusing on chocolate moulds, a segment that slowly developed.

In contrast to the traditional manufacture of metal moulds, Hans Brunner and his business partner Tho-mas Hauner began experimenting in 1950 with various plastics for different moulds und models. They started with moulds for pralines and bars, later moving on to include bunnies and Santa Claus moulds.

Today Brunner moulds are known throughout Germany and around the world. Brunner has a workforce of some 130 employees and is the world market leader in chocolate moulds with approximately 66?% of global market share. Along with the company’s wide range of standard moulds, Brunner’s core business also consists of articles tailored for specific customer wishes and technical mould development. Its portfolio additionally includes ice cream scoops, baking moulds and plastic glasses. According to company statements, Brunner’s annual sales total between 10 and 12 million Euros. The Brunner headquarters in Glonn comprises several buildings today with total floor space of 8,500?m2, all outfitted in accordance with the very latest energy standards.

Since 1980 Hans Brunner GmbH has been managed by Rudi Schwaiger, the nephew of Thomas Hauner, and Markus Gebhart, who joined as the second Managing Director in 2006. Each year the company makes significant investments in the latest technologies and machinery in order to improve its processes and achieve the very highest levels of quality. The company celebrated its 80th anniversary at its Open Day ceremony on August 1st.
